Nokia N95 8GB Cell Phone Review

The original Nokia N95 was one of the best-selling mobile phones of 2007 and raised the bar for high-end phones for sale. Although packed to the hilt with features, the original suffered from a few glaring issues - most notably its poor battery life. Less than a year after the N95’s release, Nokia has again tried to raise the bar for smart phones with the N95 8GB. With this updated model, Nokia has stepped up to the plate and improves on what was already a great phone.

Nokia first offered the N95 8GB for sale on October 2007. Being chock-full of amazing features, the N95 8GB is priced on the high side but sellers offering discounted Nokia N95 8GB phones are easily found. But is the N95 8GB worth your hard-earned money? Lets find out.

N95 8GB Features

Like its predecessor, the N95 8GB comes in a slick two-way slider form factor. Slide the gorgeous screen up to reveal the keypad and down to access the media player buttons. The device measures in at 99x53x21mm and weighs in at 128g. The 8GB model’s 2.8” 240x320 pixel screen is one of the best in its class with support for up to 16 million colors.

The Nokia N95 8GB’s 5MP camera features Carl Zeiss optics and integrated flash. The camera was the best in its class when the phone was first released and is still one of the better ones out there today. It can snap photos at a maximum resolution of 2592x1944 pixels and record VGA videos at 30fps. While the image quality is superb for a phone camera, the N95 8GB disappoints with its slow image processing.

With its screen in landscape mode and 128MB of RAM coupled with WiFi and HSDPA connectivity, web browsing on the unlocked N95 8GB is a pleasant experience. Pages are rendered fast and, thanks to the large screen, is quite readable.

Another notable feature of Nokia N95 8GB phones for sale is the built-in GPS receiver. With the pre-installed Nokia Maps covering more than 100 countries, the GPS feature is a boon for frequent travelers. Alternatively, you can download and install Google Maps.

N95 versus the N95 8GB

As an updated version of the original N95, the 8GB model shares most of the great features of its predecessor and greatly improves upon its deficiencies. Nokia N95 8GB phones for sale today have much larger storage capacities - 8GB, as the name implies, of internal memory (the original shipped with a paltry 160MB). The massive upgrade, however, comes at the expense of the MicroSD slot.

Nokia N95 8GB phones for sale today also have a much larger screen, 2.6” versus 2.8”. The QVGA resolution, however, remains the same. While it would have been better to pack more pixels in, the screen, as it is, is more than adequate.

Performance and overall snappiness has also been improved thanks to the 8GB model getting twice the RAM. Battery life, one of the major complaints about the original N95 for sale, now lasts up to 280 hours on stand by and 6 hours of regular use.

Build quality also seems to have been improved. The N95 8GB feels more solid while looking sleeker thanks to the new black color scheme. But the 8GB model is actually a bit heavier and thicker than its predecessor.

Nokia N95 8GB phones for sale today are about as feature-packed as you can get. With the N95 8GB, Nokia has kept true to its tagline: “It’s what computers have become.” Unfortunately, the N95 is about as bulky as a computer too. But, if your pockets can handle the price and the size of this multimedia monster then you can’t go wrong with setting aside your hard-earned cash for the N95 8GB.
