Nokia N82 Review

Nokia’s NSeries of multimedia smartphones are some of the best handsets on the market today. With the Nokia N82, for sale since November 2007, the Finnish giant looks to have another hit. As the successor to the wildly successful N73, the Nokia N82 for sale has a tough act to follow. But judging by the reception it has gotten so far since its announcement in November, the N82 is more than worthy to take the N73’s place.

The Nokia N82 for sale measures in at 112x50.2x17.3mm and weighs 114g. While its dimensions will still leave a noticeable bulge in your pocket, it’s a bit smaller than the N95 8GB. Build quality is what you would expect from Nokia - superb. The quality of the plastic is top-notch; it feels built to last and perfectly weighted. As for the design, you will either like or hate Nokia’s take on the traditional candybar form factor for the N82. The keypad area is scant owing to the large display. The keys, which are tiny slivers, will take some getting used to but the generous spacing makes up for it somewhat.

The N82 has a good-sized screen at 2.4” running at a 240x320-pixel resolution and supporting up to 16M colors. The Nokia N82 for sale has a built-in accelerometer with automatic screen rotation making switching to landscape mode seamless. The display isn’t as sharp as the one on Nokia’s flagship N95. It looks a little washed out and could use more brightness. Its a good screen for the price though (the N82 being the most affordable of the NSeries) especially if you find a discounted N82 unit.

A quick scan of the phone’s feature list tells us that the N82 is a powerhouse of a multimedia smartphone. It comes with Nokia’s vaunted NSeries features (N-Gage games, Nokia Music Player with access to the Nokia Music Store, Nokia Maps etc.) but the one thing that stands out the most is the N82’s camera. This phone is the first from Nokia to have Xenon flash. Coupled with 5MP, Carl Zeiss optics and auto-focus, the N82’s camera is one of the best in its class. The camera software has extensive settings to tweak and image quality is excellent. Video quality is good as well, recording VGA-resolution clips at 30fps.

The Nokia N82 can playback the most common formats and does so with aplomb. It has stereo speakers, A2DP support as well as a 3.5mm audio jack (a very welcome change).

Internal storage capacity, at 100MB, should be adequate enough for applications. For storing your media, a microSD slot is provided as well as a 2GB card. The slot can also take SDHC cards so you can have up to 8GB of storage (up to 32GB once manufacturers start making them).

Connectivity options are extensive with only an infrared port missing. Most users probably won’t miss it at all. The quad-band GSM N82 has 802.11 b/g, 3G (with HSDPA), EDGE and GPRS support. With excellent data connectivity plus the 2.4” screen in landscape mode and 128MB of RAM, web browsing is smooth - a great experience overall. The Nokia N82 for sale also comes with a built-in GPS receiver with A-GPS functionality and Nokia Maps (which has been significantly improved since its launch).

Given all these features, the N82’s battery performs pretty well. Nokia’s estimates are quite accurate but it will all depend on usage as the Xenon flash is a significant battery-drainer.

Overall, the Nokia N82 for sale is an excellent handset and a worthy replacement of the N73. If you’re looking for a multimedia powerhouse with a superb camera and can’t justify the cost of the N95 8GB, this phone is for you.
